With a few hours to kill here in the Las Vegas airport I wandered into the music store and got a chance to test out these headphones along with the gaming version E2G. The foam padding of the bud effectively blocks out the noise of the airport. With all the one armed bandits and other bells whistles and theme songs erupting all around me like a technicolor dreamcoat acid trip I was able to hear my music as though I was sitting quietly at home with the hifi on. I have an on ear pair of Sony DJ headphones that play music quite nicely but the comfort is severely lacking for long periods of time. I think the difference between isolation and noise canceling is staggering. Plus you don't need the extra battery. After testing them with an iPod, I read a few amazon reviews about the cord, but honestly I think the only complaint I had was that I could hear the cord rubbing against my ear when I moved.
Panasonic RP-HTX7 Retro Piano Painted Headphones
Right now I have 4 sets of different headphones for my ipods.
Home: Sony 700 which have great sound and take a little bit of positioning to be comfortable. The sound is deep, rich and clear. These are the best sounding headphones without heading into car payment territory. These even are best when looking to sit down and enjoy and album.
Work: AKG found on buy.com for 30 bucks plus a 15 dollar discount made these the best 15 dollar headphones ever. They do take a little bit of positioning but have good sound. I also chose these over the K26's because of looks even though the K26's have leather padded cans. The image was slightly deceiving as I thought the can had a brushed metal surface and it turned out to be plastic. They come with a zippered pouch which would have been better if it had been ballistic nylon. I do like the rotating can similar to the DJ700 for a foam padded set. For what I paid for these I am extremely happy with what I got.
Workout: Sony sport clips good for weight lifting but not running. okay middle range sound not much different than ipod set. I tried running with these things in my ears and they moved around a lot. They also a tendency to get dirty fast. According to the company they are waterproof (read sweat resistant).
Running: These Philips for Nike are great for running and stay in place. The sound registers a little higher to me and they are very lightweight. The plastic does feel cheap. They look and fit like a stethoscope.
I think my next pair will be an over the ear design as that seems to be the most comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Although I have yet to find something under a hundred bucks that will give the same sound as my 700's. I am also considering the Shure in ear phones but have read complaints about the lack of bass. I'm not a bass head but do want a rich complete sound. I wonder why Bose won't publish their specs....
