Well after the contract was up on my trusty Treo 650 I began to look for other phones. I started with the Samsung Blackjack for about 10 days. Very thin decent camera. Texting and calls are fine. The 3G and 2G switiching was annoying but not that big a deal. Trying to use the phone beyond its basic functions was a huge pain. Windows mobile is horrible at least in Samsung's hands. Just trying to get to my music libray or use mp3's as ringtones was a nightmare. My treo was over two years old and handled this just fine. It also did not record texting as conversations just what was received. Ever send a text yesterday and get a response today? Yeah. I added the micro sd card 2GB. Windows Media Player locked up after putting more than 1 GB of music on it. Couldn't take it any longer. Great idea with extremely poor execution. So the iPhone price dropped by 200 bucks. Sold the Treo and Sold my larger capacity iPod. Enter iPhone. I was able to fit 6 movies, 100 photos and roughly 800 songs on it. An excellent balance of all the things I do. I would pay 40-50 for a controller to eliminate my PSP should it ever support real games beyond solitaire and poker. The touch typing has a learning curve but have started to get used to it. Gmail works great with it. Treo 650 you were ahead of your time too bad you never had a suitable replacement...
Right now I have 4 sets of different headphones for my ipods.
Home: Sony 700 which have great sound and take a little bit of positioning to be comfortable. The sound is deep, rich and clear. These are the best sounding headphones without heading into car payment territory. These even are best when looking to sit down and enjoy and album.
Work: AKG found on buy.com for 30 bucks plus a 15 dollar discount made these the best 15 dollar headphones ever. They do take a little bit of positioning but have good sound. I also chose these over the K26's because of looks even though the K26's have leather padded cans. The image was slightly deceiving as I thought the can had a brushed metal surface and it turned out to be plastic. They come with a zippered pouch which would have been better if it had been ballistic nylon. I do like the rotating can similar to the DJ700 for a foam padded set. For what I paid for these I am extremely happy with what I got.
Workout: Sony sport clips good for weight lifting but not running. okay middle range sound not much different than ipod set. I tried running with these things in my ears and they moved around a lot. They also a tendency to get dirty fast. According to the company they are waterproof (read sweat resistant).
Running: These Philips for Nike are great for running and stay in place. The sound registers a little higher to me and they are very lightweight. The plastic does feel cheap. They look and fit like a stethoscope.
I think my next pair will be an over the ear design as that seems to be the most comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. Although I have yet to find something under a hundred bucks that will give the same sound as my 700's. I am also considering the Shure in ear phones but have read complaints about the lack of bass. I'm not a bass head but do want a rich complete sound. I wonder why Bose won't publish their specs....
